Onda is Spanish for "ripple"

about us

_MG_1401-1.JPG

We're Maribel and Mathieu, a couple from Quebec, Canada. Being both travelers and entrepreneurs, the idea of opening our own beach hostel in another country had been on the table for quite a while. But not any hostel. Through that project, we wanted to work with good people to make a difference somewhere, somehow.

We found Las Tunas, this stunning little village on the coast, and it was obvious... that was it. So we sold everything we owned and moved to Ecuador to do that wonderful project. And it's the best decision we could have taken.

We made this our home and we now even have an Ecuadorian-Canadian baby. His name is Theo, and it's fair to say that since he was born, Onda definitely has a new boss. We can't complain though, he's a great boss, very playful and easy-going!

Important! Ask the driver to drop you off at the playground (cancha de fútbol) of the "ciudadela 12 de octubre" in Las Tunas. Do not get off downtown Las Tunas as it is a 10 minute walk from here! From the playground, go down towards the beach to the only street you see. Turn left on that street, then walk for 30 seconds. Here we are!

Getting to Onda by bus:

From any town between Santa Elena and Manta - Many bus companies offer this route. If you are in a town where there is no bus terminal or proper bus stop, you can hop on the bus by flagging it down on the road. You can also ask the driver to drop you off anywhere on the road.

From Manta Airport - Take a taxi to the bus terminal. Find the Manglaralto ticket office (lime green buses) and get a ticket to Las Tunas. They leave every 30min and the ride takes about 2.5 hours. There are no buses late at night.
